DCU Mercy Corona Virus Update

DCU Mercy Corona Virus Update

Monday, March 16th 2020

With the suspension of the basketball season and with the safety of all our players, it is with sad regret that we must say goodbye to both our American’s Meredith and Ashley who played and coached with us this season.

The two girls were outstanding both as players and coaches and will be missed by all their team mates and players.

We wish them a safe journey home and the very best for their futures which can only bring great things for them both.  Their hard work and friendship have brought such positivity and joy to the cub and it’s members and they will be sorely missed.  A very sad way to say goodbye but hopefully we will have the pleasure of meeting with them again.

Ashley will depart for home Tuesday 17th and Meredith will leave Wednesday 18th..

Go raibh míle maith agat agus turas sábháilte.

In line with the statement released from Basketball Ireland on Wednesday March 11th, DCU Mercy have decided to cancel all training sessions for all teams within the club, until further notice.

A statement from the governing body issued on Wednesday night read: "Basketball Ireland continues to closely monitor the coronavirus outbreak and the advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team, the HSE, and the WHO.

"The health and safety of the Basketball Ireland community is our priority and we are determined to be proactive regarding precautions to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

"Basketball Ireland is therefore instructing all affiliates to suspend all basketball competitions and events with immediate effect.

"We understand that this decision will result in inconvenience and disappointment to many players, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters, particularly at this time when various competitions are reaching their concluding stages.

"However, we are sure that all will understand that the decision is taken in the best interests, not just of the basketball community, but also family, friends and the wider community.

"The situation is rapidly changing and we will continue to monitor developments on a day-today basis.

The safety of our players, coaches and families are our top priority and concern. As the situation is rapidly changing on a daily basis, we will keep everyone updated on the latest club developments right here.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
